...Mr. Nice Guy...
I moved to town about eight months ago. I knew practically nobody.
That's why it was especially cool when I - a former radio guy - turned on the radio and heard Liz of the Liz & Carson Morning Show on "Mix 94.1." She had just moved here from Rochester, NY to go to work for the station (owned by the monopolistic bastards, Clear Channel, which I'll deal with in an upcoming rant). I'm from Oswego (about 70 miles east of Rochester).
Liz is smarter than the average radio idiot. Even a master's degree...from $yracu$e Univer$ity (I lived in Syracuse for many years). She's also single.
Sooooooo, Mr. NiceGuy springs into action:
I sent her a friendly note, wishing her well.
Then, about a few weeks later (after no response) I just sent another one along inviting her out for coffee.
Let me make this clear, it was just a friendly note. Nothing suggestive, nothing flirty, nothing goofy. I just figured it would be nice for two Central/Western NY expat's to get together.
She ignored me.
No reply at all.
"Nice guys..."
She's just a radio personality in Cincinnati. It's not like I was writing to Oprah.
I stopped listening soon after.
Her insensitivity, combined with what seems to be following the Clear Channel company line (on air, you must be angry at the government, dislike Bill Clinton, etc.) made her very un-listenable.
So much for trying to be nice.
Shame on her.
Addendum, 1/20/04:
A fun 1/13/04 article in
The Cincinnati Post reports that the Liz & Carson Show was - uh - ended a couple of weeks ago. Carson's contract at the station wasn't renewed and "His sidekick, Liz Bonis, continues to work full time for the media chain as a lifestyle reporter at WKRC-TV (Channel 12). "
My two conclusions: (1) Ha, ha, ha. (2) She's a famous local TV celebrity and must be very proud. In our culture, being famous seems to be more important than anything else.
